In my project, Fallen Nature and the two Cities, I consider the notion of the "shared practice”, to address the acrimonious relationship generally expressed between African-Americans and Latinos. I articulate this, by documenting a stylized haircut shared between young African-American and Latino males. The project is intended to promote connections and a discursive dialogue about existing divisions between the two cultures.
I believe that by using the constructs of documentation and representation, one can ponder on the polemic by having the two cultures represented, participating in the same activity or exploring the “others” implied space. Perhaps this is a place where the apparent engagements can occur- the place where our subjectivity merges.
